As of 1 July 2025, Australia’s much-anticipated Support at Home program will replace the existing Home Care Package and short-term restorative care systems. At Live Easy (Home Care by Scalabrini), our mission is to ensure you and your loved ones transition seamlessly into this enhanced home care framework so you can continue living independently and with dignity in your own home.
What Is the Support at Home Program?
Support at Home is the federal government’s reimagined in-home care system, designed to:
Streamline access to services, equipment and home modifications
Reduce wait times through automated prioritisation
Expand care levels from four to eight tiers, plus two short-term pathways
Introduce capped prices and clear contribution arrangements
These changes are grounded in recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, with a strong focus on choice, transparency and keeping you safely at home longer.
1. Smooth Transition for Existing Home Care Recipients
If you already hold a Home Care Package (HCP) with us, rest assured:
No increase in your current contribution, your budget simply transfers into the new Support at Home system.
Automatic enrolment on 1 July 2025 based on your existing HCP level and assessment.
No reassessment required unless your care needs have changed.
Our team at Live Easy will take care of all the paperwork, so you can continue enjoying the services you rely on.
2. Who’s Eligible—and How Assessments Work
From launch day, three applicant groups can access Support at Home:
Australians aged 65 and over
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 and over
Australians aged 50+ who are homeless or at risk of homelessness
Assessments move to the new Single Assessment System using the Integrated Assessment Tool (IAT). This ensures your care plan is personalised to your goals—whether that’s maintaining mobility, managing chronic conditions, or boosting social connections.
3. Faster Care with Automated Prioritisation
Key improvements to manage wait times include:
Priority Ratings: High, Medium or Standard tiers automatically generated from your assessment data
Interim Allocations: If full funding is delayed, you’ll receive 60% of your quarterly budget upfront to start services sooner.
Live Easy Home Care team will monitor your interim allocations and progress you to full funding as it becomes available.
4. Transparent Pricing & Contributions
Under Support at Home:
Clinical Supports (e.g., nursing, allied health) remain fully funded by the government—no out-of-pocket costs.
Independence Services (e.g., personal care, home modifications) incur moderate contributions based on service type and your means.
Everyday Living Services (e.g., domestic assistance, gardening) attract the highest contribution rates.
All contributions are capped: no one pays more than $130,000 in non-clinical costs over their lifetime. We’ll work with you to understand your specific co-payment obligations before any service begins.
5. Expanded Support Levels & Specialised Pathways
Support at Home features:
Classification Level | Annual Budget |
Level 1 | $11,000 |
Level 4 | $30,000 |
Level 8 | $78,000 |
Plus two short-term pathways:
Restorative Care: Up to 12 weeks of therapy to maintain or improve your independence.
End-of-Life Care: Additional services in the last three months of life for those choosing to remain at home.
Live Easy offers tailored service packages within each level, ensuring you access the right blend of care, therapy, and support.
6. Defined Service Categories
Under Support at Home, services are grouped into three categories:
Clinical Care: Nursing, allied health, medication management
Independence: Personal care, mobility support, assistive technology
Everyday Living: Domestic assistance, meal preparation, social support
With clear service lists and capped prices coming from IHACPA (Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority), you’ll know exactly what’s covered and how much it costs before you commit.
7. Assistive Technology & Home Modifications Scheme (AT-HM)
A brand-new feature of Support at Home is dedicated funding for:
Assistive devices (e.g., mobility aids, pressure care equipment)
Home modifications (e.g., grab rails, ramps, bathroom adaptations)
Separate tiers of funding ensure you get the right equipment when you need it. Our occupational therapists and home modification specialists will manage the entire process, from assessment through installation so your home is safe and comfortable.
